Every Destination Has a Beginning.

T-Minus 24 hours!

It's almost time to go, to explore something new, to create new experiences.  This has been a week filled with a lot of new things, not all feel good, but are, some have been encouraging, and others feel like promises of hope for the future.

I'm going to Rei tonight, I'm buying my parking pass for this weekend, but I might get a couple of other things as well.  Something I love about shopping for backpacking equipment, is that it's not just another thing that sits, it's an item full of potential.  Each item serves a purpose, each item is most functional when used in conjunction with certain other items, everything works together.

Doing your homework is essential, you must be intentional.  Spending all your money on the best rain jacket in the world, will mean nothing if you neglect to buy waterproof boots.

I love researching.  I love to have an objective and then figure out how to achieve it, to make it work, or to understand WHY it works.  I guess you could say that I'm a little obsessive, don't get me started on something and then expect me to get tired of it.  When I feel like my curiosity is completely satisfied, all my questions answered, then I can lay it to rest.

Having my needs met is important, it's important to everyone.  It's an unfortunate thing when your feeling of "need" is at odds with what you actually do need.  The "need" is something that touches every area of our lives, emotional need, physical need, mental need.  I have needs in my hobby life, I have needs in my personal life, I have needs in my professional life.  The trick is figuring out the difference between want and need.

Something else that can defeat you, is getting a head of yourself.  If you don't have the foundation for your house, you can't be upset that you can't find the curtains you want for the windows.  Everything must be done correctly and done in the correct order, otherwise those perfect curtains wont have solid walls to be hung on.

I realize that I'm using a lot of analogise in these blog entries, but I can't think of how else to express what I'm saying without actually saying it.  I already talked about how much power words can have, so I'm going to try and do a better job of watching out for the ones I use.  I only write this blog for me, I know what I'm saying, so congrats if you're able to dicier my thoughts.

Any way, I'll be sure to post stories from my trip as soon as I get back.  Wish me luck!
